Course Policies

Late Work Policy

With the exception of unforeseen emergencies*, Reading quizzes, and Individual and Team Readiness Assessments are not accepted late and are available to be taken only during normal class time. Their purpose is to ensure you are prepared to discuss the material in class and turning them in late would negate that purpose.

Weekly assignments may be turned in late, but at a penalty of 10% per day late.

*Unforeseen Emergency means an emergency that is unforeseen. Family reunions, weddings, and other scheduled events are not unforeseen emergencies, nor is not having enough time to complete your homework because you were up too late binge-watching The Flash, or playing League of Legends.

Code of Honor

The Code of Honor defines the standards of conduct expected of all students attending Southern Virginia University. Core standards include honesty, integrity, chastity, morality, and virtue. Ancillary to the Code, but important in their effect on the spirit and attitude of the individual and the university community, are Dress and Grooming Standards emphasizing modesty, neatness and cleanliness and the Residential Living Policies, accentuating respect for the rights and property of others. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with these standards, which will be strictly enforced in this class.

With respect to plagiarism, as mentioned above, students are expected to complete the assignments on their own. They may ask for assistance from classmates, but may share only ideas, not code or other answers.

Disabilities

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Southern Virginia honors requests for reasonable accommodations made by students with disabilities or accessibility issues. Students must self-disclose their documented disability to the Accessibility Services Center, which coordinates accommodations between students and professors. Students are advised to take care of the necessary documentation and paperwork early in the semester as accommodations are not made until the student follows this procedure and adjustments will not be implemented retroactively for assignments due previous to notification. The Coordinator of Accessibility Services is Kenson Hiatt. He is located in Main Hall 236-A and can be reached at kenson.hiatt@svu.edu.

Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination against any participant in an education program or activity receiving federal funds. The act is intended to eliminate sex discrimination in education. Title IX covers discrimination in programs, admissions, activities, and student to student sexual harassment. Southern Virginia University’s policy against sexual harassment extends not only to employees of the university but to students as well. If you encounter what you believe is unlawful sexual harassment or sex-based discrimination, please talk to your professor, the Director of Student Support (Dr. Chad Kelland, Main Hall 234, tel. 540-261-8470, chad.kelland@svu.edu), the Title IX coordinator (Deidra Dryden, tel. 540-261-8516, deidra.dryden@svu.edu), or any university administrator.

I am a mandated reporter, and anything you tell me, I have to tell the University's Title IX coordinator.
